Brakes and Bars 200

Spent the morning under the 242t replacing the pads and rotors and installing a set of ipd 25/25 bars. Put Brembos on the rear and ATE Power Discs on the front with PBR Ceramic pads all around. After the install, I drove through the hills for a couple of hours bedding in the brakes and I'm real happy so far. The bars were installed with new poly bushings and I've not noticed any increase in ride harshness, but the handling improvement is quite noticable.

Anyone looking for a set of turbo bars? Got new poly bushings to go with them...

I took it easy on the brakes for today, mostly doubling my braking distances with just a handfull of long hard stops from high speed. I'm really hoping these brakes do the trick, the old ones (Zimmerman's and PBR Metalmaster) faded way too fast during any aggressive driving.

Greetings Michael, how go the job wars?

All parts from FCP; rotors, pads, teflon shims, all new hardware, a tube of Syl Glide and a thermostat, UPS ground (56lbs.) for $276. Labor was, of course, free ;-)

Discs and rotors can be found cheaper, and for everyday driving, the old Zimmerman rotors were fine, but they were not up to the task of more "aggressive" driving.

    Brakes and Bars...Day Two and a ? 200

After a short installation check this morning, I took the little turbo out for another run through the hills. I carefully warmed up the car and brakes and then let them have it. The Power Disc/PBR Ceramic combination work very well together, easily handling a run that would have had left the Metelmasters a faded, stinking mess. The pads do generate a lot of dust on the front wheels, slightly less from the solid Brembos on the rear.

I can't say enough about the IPD bars. If anything, the car rides smoother around town and on the freeway, but get her in the twisty bits and the combination of the Kumho 712s, IPD bars and strut-to-firewall braces inspire tremendous confidence. With the new bars, I am able to really push these tires and make 'em work a bit instead of just scrubbing off speed with understeer.

I'm pretty happy with the handling as it is right now. What sort of improvement could I expect from lower chassis braces or a tower to tower brace?

Sorry, I want to sell them as a set. They are Super Pro Poly bushings, you can find them online for around $25.

Would be interested in the turbo bars for the 262C, how much? I would be able to pick-up as well, I will just make a nice drive out of it or try to meet up at the next Volvo Meet. Thanks for your time.

      Sincerely,

I think you'll need a special front bar to clear the V6.

The Pick-n-Pull and Pick-a-Part yards are having 1/2 sales through Monday.

Too many yards, too little time.
