oil around coils

I have a 93 960 2.9 litre. Today I went and changed the engine oil and then I went to go replace the spark plugs. When I removed the plastic cover hiding the coils and the spark plugs, oil was all around the top of the motor and surrounding the coils, did anyone else have this occour and why?

oil around coils

Sloppy mechanic spilled oil when filling, runs down under the cover.

I had this same problem with my '94 850. I think the problem was a combination of faulty gasket on the filler cap and clogged flame trap, but mostly the flame trap. Clean it up ASAP. The oil ruined the rubber on the end of the ignition wires. I can only imagine the same result on the coil assemblies.

After cleaning up the oil and changing the above mentioned items, check in a week or so to make sure the problem is fixed.

Dan
