Hi all,

I need to replace the black vinyl stripes under the driver side windows on my 242 GLT.

Anyone have the part numbers.

Thanks,

Mike

    Mike,
Talk to Dave Barton, he found some vinyl that was used in sign making that looked great. Even if they were available last I heard they were well over $100.

      Hi Dave,

I was thinking about going to one of those places that does the car graphics in vinyl and seeing how much to get one made..don't know why that wouldn't work.

Mine was fine until i went thru a car wash behind a Chevron station on Friday....the high pressure on the left side ripped the hell out of the strip...trying to get the station to pay for replacement.

Strip was only about 9 yrs old...was replaced when car was totally repainted in 95.

      Mike

    Mike,

Had to do a quite a bit of sanding and scraping but I removed the crapped out old tape and repainted with SEM Original Trim Black. I think it looks as good, if not better than the original tape. The Trim Black has an OE look and I've had good results with it's durabilty in the past when re-painting other trim pieces.

    Mike,

I am having the same problem. Dealer confirmed to me that the part is NLA, and a four door set would look like crap. I've seen a 242 with them painted on and they look like crap too. I thought of tracing the ones on my car and getting them cut by a trim company.

    Mike,

If you are talking about the rubber wipes for the front windows, they are no longer sold. I checked with the dealer a few weeks ago and that was their answer. They are hard to find for two door models. Good luck.

I've found that painting with flat black paint works best (and cheaper)...just do some good prep work and use a spray can.
    Good Luck,
    Chris
