Fuel Pump pricing questions, are these the same ? 900

Hi all,

I may need a new main fuel pump for the 1994 940 Turbo that I just bought, and I have been shopping around for the best price.

The price differences are huge. My Volvo dealership want $380 (ouch !) Some of the online parts stores want in the high two hundreds. FCP has a Bosch pump for about $145. Are these really all the exact same part ? I don't want to get anything inferior but I do want the best price.

I have bought some aftermarket parts from FCP that turned out to be junk (i.e. Scantech engine mounts) so I want to make sure I get the real thing.

Thanks for any input.

R Duke

Whatever you do don't put anything in but a Bosch. I bought a Borge Warner from Pep Boy's and was laughed at by my Volvo buddies, I blew them off, it worked fine, good psi and car ran well. That is, it ran well for exactly 18 months, died in the middle of a very busy intesection here in crowded south Florida. I ate crow and replaced it with Bosch (used), learned my lesson the hard way! The best new Bosch price I have come across for that pump is 208$.

Dear R Duke,

Hope this finds you well. Go to www.borton.com and get their price on a genuine Bosch fuel pump. Borton's is a Volvo dealership, that sells parts over the net, generally at nice discounts.

Installing the pump can be tough, so it's not the sort of thing you want to do twice.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook

You

If it says it's Bosch it's Bosch. The SCAN-TECH mounts you bought said SCAN-TECH right? Avoid some SCAN-TECH stuff for less$$$$. Get much better deals on the real thing, Bosch ECT. B.G.

Question, I bought a Scan-Tech fuel pump relay. Should I worry, should I take it back out as PM?

I could not say if the relay is good or bad. It may be just fine. All I know is that their engine mounts are pure junk. The ones I bought seemed OK, but engine vibration was worse than not changing them at all. Granted they were 1/3 the cost of Volvo's, and they do mount the engine. They do not dampen the engine vibration because the rubber is much to hard. (That is on my 740, the 900 I have uses the hydraulic type).

What bugs me is getting parts like that which are inferior to the point that I end up buying the Volvo parts too - i.e. no money saved.

Some of the web sites post the manufacturers name, and some do not. I am a bit baffled by the large price difference on Bosch pumps. Other Bosch items like fuel injectors don't have that much difference in price between on line parts sources. The pumps do.

Hi
I just looked it up at the eurocarparts.com
They sell the pump originted from Sweden for £ 76 + VAT + shipping.
Worthwhile an enquiry -- i was happy with their quality and service.
but in this case, i would give them a ring first and confirm the price and producer.
Reg fuel relay -- I have in both of my Volov's a good spare one in the car.
Greetings from ireland, Hans
