Start Up Question 900 1996

Hi!

I've had my 960 for 7 weeks now. (Have also had a 240, 760, and an 850 in the family sometime ago).

Everytime the I start the car the engine, the oil light comes on for two or three seconds. Previous owner had a Volvo filter, and non synthetic oil.

Recently I changed the oil in synthetic, with a mann filter. The light still comes on for two or so seconds.

I'm guessing, and hoping this is normal. Or is there something I should watch out for?

Thanks in advance for an help!
AL

On both our cars, the oil light stays lit for a couple of seconds for the first start of the day. Any starts after that the light goes out immediately. It has always been this way and I have always used Mann filters and Mobil1 in both cars.

I am interested in your question too, my original engine the oil light would go out almost while the engine was still being cranked for start up. My second engine which is new, the oil light behaves just as you describe. Someone should have some advice, I would love to hear others thoughts on this.

I am thinking that the oil leaks back down the sump pipe, so after a while the oil has to be sucked all the way back to the oil pump to pressurize. I had the oil pressure tested when I first did the swap and the pressures are to the book, normal.

Hey Dan, I had the problem in My 97, 960 and it was the oil switch reacting slow when cold. I swapped the switch from my Dads 960 and no delay now in the 97. Try a new switch. Pauli

      Thanks for the replies...

      I hope its normal...

Someone once told me that Mann filter are better because they have a check valve, and it helps in the vital seconds of startup.
