Support Arm & Torque Rod 120-130

I have replaced the springs, shocks and some of the suspension bushings on my 1969 123GT. Still, I have a clunk here and there. My local mechanic who knows Amazons pretty well recommends that I replace the support arm (part # 672610) and the torque rod (part # 672609) along with the associated bushings.

My question is: Is there anything to be gained by replacing the torque rod and support arm or would it suffice just to replace the bushings?

Thanks for your help.

Jerry

I agree with mario, check the connection point on the chassis, mine were oblong from use and abuse. Clever use of spacers is a temporary solution, the real solution would be to weld a more metal into the hole. I disagre with your mechanis, replacing the actual arms or torque rod makes no sense. The only reason to change htose would be if they were bent/broken.

I think I know what your problem may be. I have a persistant clunk in my car that I have described before. It seems to be due to some of the trailing arm supports that are attached to the body (I can't seem to remember if it was the lower or upper ones that is the issue, you may be able to find the discussion in the archives or search). But to summerize, one set of the trailing arm mounts on the body is for some wierd reason made of thinner sheet metal than the rest of the car. This causes the holes to become worn in an oblong fashion letting the bolt shift about a millemeter or so when you make sudden starts or stops. I have been able to temporarily get rid of the noise by torqing the trailing arm bolt/nut to attempt to clamp the mount harder, but it always gets loose again and the clunk persists when I make a quick stop or start. The only solution would be recreating the hole in it's proper round form and reinforcing the metal somehow. There are a plenty of ways you could go about doing this, but I haven't bothered trying yet.

I agree with Phil. But you really oughta LOOK at them because the big ones
are pretty expen$ive - like $50/shot. The smaller ones are not so bad and
maybe you can get by replacing them only.

I really can't imagine anything going wrong with those arms that would cause a clunk. Worn bushings would definitely clunk.
