fuel indicator fault 900 1995

940 non-turbo

Lately, i notice that my low fuel indicator (the orange light) begins to light up the moment the needle touches E and continue to stay lit until the next refill. It used to be the orange light comes on at E for a moment and then goes off to come on again as a constant reminder.

Is there something wrong with the float at the pump? if yes, is this a DIY job.

Thanks

laozong

How many gallons? 900 1995

I didn’t know there was a low fuel light until I read it on the board a few years ago. I’ve never seen it on my cars. If we 940 owners have a 17 gal tank, allowing for a little air space, how may gallon did it take to full the tank after the light came on?

Dear laozong,

May this find you well. On my 1993 940 (non-turbo), the low-fuel warning light comes on and stays on, until I re-fuel. Occasionally, movement of fuel inside the tank (i.e., if I'm climbing a hill) will cause the light to go out. When the car levels out, the light comes back on.

Most of the warning lights (seat belts excepted) come on and stay on, to remind the driver to fix the problem.

It seems to me that this is how it should be. If the warning light came on briefly - and then went out - the driver might not see it, and so not know that it was time to refuel.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
