engine paint 200 1986

while i've got the throttle body and intake manifold off i was thinking about painting them. does the walmart/autozone engine paint hold up at all? i'll prime and spray really neatly, taking care to mask and plug vac holes. are there any problems with the spray can kind? im not going to necessarily do it at the same time but would there be a problem with painting the fuel rail? are there any metallic parts i shouldnt paint besides exhaust manifold?

handsome greg

I would love to see the finished product when you get done. Seeing the posts it sounds like you are going to have one sweet ride with all the work you are doing. Would love too see the progress and the finished product!

Simple Green is my choice. Built up areas can be cleaned first with a putty knife, then Gunk Engine cleaner before using the Simple Green. A long soft bristle brush works well to scrub with where you can get at it with something like that. I do the bottom side of the hood first and hose it off letting everything dry before doing the engine and fender wells. It usually helps to cover the distributor with a plastic bag before using water to rinse. I prefer normal pressure rather than the high pressure car wash wands because of possible damage to wiring harnesses and other more delicate items under the hood.

If you really want to be anal about it use your favorite wax on the underside of the hood and on the apron in front of the radiator. It adds addition charm and makes keeping it clean easier next time.
