On my 91 240SE I have a m46 from a tranny swap, along with a driveshaft from an older 240 turbo. This has the larger 3.75" diameter flanges that connect on both sides to the tranny and rear axle. What size Ujoints do I order for the car?

Also... do ALL ujoints these days come with grease nipple ports? Are there only certain brands that use them? I have 2 driveshafts in my garage laying around, and out of 6 ujoints, only 1 had a grease nipple hole in it... wtf is up with that?

FWIW, the only u-joint failure I've experienced in '70+ Volvo was caused by the zerk falling out. None of my later cars even have a plug.

I just replaced my U-joints on the '83. I have the same size (all large) as you specify. I went to the dealer to get the top quality joints - I believe the ones that failed were the original joints, and they made it 260K miles. IIRC, the dealer spec for these joints involved the measurement 50.2mm.

The OEM parts are made by GKN(?). They came in a box with a setscrew in the grease port, and a Zerk fitting included in a little bag. I assume you don't put the Zerk in until after the joints are pressed to avoid damaging it. I was surprised to find the original joints on my car had the grease fittings, but the Zerk fittings had never been put on.

The new joints really tightened up the driveline by a surprising amount. It's amazing what you get used to as parts degrade slowly over time.

I don't know what size you need but if I were you I'd go to the local supplier and match them up. Also, I installed Factory Volvo U Joints on my 1980 GT and I don't remember them having grease nipples. Aftermarket U joints I have used on Toyota 4X4's have grease nipples.
