I had a wierd one today. After picking up my morning coffee, I tried to latch my seatbelt and it would not latch. Thinking it was the lack of caffine, I tried a few more time and nada.

With piece of welding rod I pushed the internal part that the end of the tongue pushes and nothing seems to be moving from the top or bottom (for lack of another reference).

Is there a common fail-mode on these things. I hate even driving home from work without it!

Seat belt latches having an overload of beverages is a common cause. Mine was sticky from PO's beverage habit that it was stuck. I lubed it with WD 40 and it is still working. Try cleaning and lubing first.
