Looking for comments and advice on this.

Someone had backed into Volvo Boys ’95 turbo whilst parked at work. Kind of a strange hit. Kind of a strange imprint too. Would the bumper push in about 3” to allow the damage to the boot lid like this?

Option 1
I have two estimates, one for $2500 and another for $2800 with a $250 deductible. The price of the lid is listed at $1382.57, two new lights, new emblems (no “Turbo” on a ’95) at $35.00, new? bumper cover at $361.88, new? tail light at $130.17, plus paint and labor, misc.

The estimator will look at the car on Tuesday but I talked to an Allstate estimator in an informal manner to get an idea of what they would typically do. Used hood, probably one used tail light, no emblems, no paint feathering, and get this, a ReConditioned Bumper Cover.

Option 2
I’ll have to have a heart to heart chat with my agent to find out what will happen to my ins rates. I have no idea right now how much trunk hood would cost, a light $60.00, bumper cover??? and painting??? I think I can get the parts, do the labor and get the lid painted for all for under $500. Not sure right now.

I’m wondering if there is anything to watch out for like the bumper support or the lid hinge. There is a slight deformation on the lid at the hinge attachment.

im with the pickup theory, hit reversing at about a 45degree angle with those nice pedestrian freindly 'bull' bars on (handy for catching those bulls at wall mart!).

I think the 'bumper' of the pickup has riden up over the bumper on the volvo and then the bull bar done the damage...

I would personally take the bumper right off and check the shock absorbers and for any damage under the bumper...a LOT can be hidden there! but I recon looking at the picy your gona be ok with that...

the boot lid well probably as easy just to fit a new one, certainly cheaper unless your going to do the work yourself. I THINK the lods are aluminium (which bends easy!) - you should be able to tell looking at the damage up close, if so that degree of damage wouldnt wory me, if its steel I would seriously consider the hinge mounts on the body of the car being bent...

the SOB who hit you would sure have known about it..and they just drove off...kind of makes the case for carrying a gun doesnt it...so if you se him next time you can just shoot him (or her!)

Hi Javalion, I have the tailight and the trunk lid. I was trying to attach a picture to this, but I guess I'm not savvy enough in the art of computer manipulation. I have a bumper cover but it is a 960. If you get a bumper cover from Volvo it is prepainted, it is a lot less than trying to find an aftermarket bumper cover and having it painted with the special primer and then the paint with the rubberizer, then the clearcoat with rubberizer. Pauli,
Thanks. Hey, you are into the 960s mostly aren't you? This area is not Volvo country (Durham-Burlington) as far as the 4-5 salvage yards in the area are concerned. I think these 940 bumpers are solid hard rubber or soft plastic without paint. My '93 beater-T-Rex has plenty of scars and no change in color or peeling. I will see what happens after I talk to the ins adjuster tomorrow and weigh my options. You are not too far from me, 150-200 mi. I'll email you after I talk to the adjuster. I wonder if it would fit in my 945.

Hi Javalion, I have 13 960's and 1 940 wagon and 2,740 wagons. I am going to Ft. Myers, Florida, Monday if you interested in any parts. For that little gash I would use some uerathane filler sand and paint. See Ya. Pauli

My guess would be that it was "run into" by a vertical metal post travelling at moderate speed.

The bumper shock sprang back out but the trunk lid didn`t.

These vertical posts need little feet to skedaddle out of the way of a teenage driver! Lots of pickemup trucks with frames and scaffolding. I have absolute 100% faith in Volvo boy’s word...otherwise may the fleas of a 1000 camels infest is armpits. :o)

Looks like you got 'kissed' by a pickup. You're wanting a new cover for your bumper? Looks like mine and it's never been hit! I call that normal wear and tear. The deck lid looks 'salvagable' and a good used taillight covering should be acceptable. It sure doesn't look like $2,500 damage.
