I was given a Volvo radio which was 'suppose' to fit our 1984 240. It is a TD-3141 Radio. It came with 2 amplifiers, and HA-3121 and an HA-3141. The main connector on the radio will plug right in to the harness in the car. However on our '84 the front speakers are wired in to the connector with the harness and the rear speakers have a 4 pin connector. The amplifiers each have a 9 pin connector. The HA-3121 uses 6 of the pins, and the HA-3141 uses 5 of the pins. I'm guessing that on the HA-3121 the yellow is the power and the black is the ground and the other 4 are the speakers. On the HA-3141 it looks like there are 4 speaker wires and a ground wire in the harness? There is an external yellow cable that is heavy on the 3141, is this the power feed? On the radio (TD-3141) there is also a yellow fused line that is not in the connector it has been cut, does this go to the yellow wires for the amps or where? Then there is the orange/black pair on a seperate connector what is this for? Also is the top DIN style connector front or rear?

If anyone knows the color code for the extra wires and/or the pinouts for the connectors it would be greatly appreciated.

Yellow is power for amp.

Plug in of DIN cable shunts front speaker line signal (pre head unit amp ) to external amp and also carries the rear line out signal for 4 speaker units.

3121 is 15 watts per channel rear speakers only.
3141 is 4 channel amp also 15 watts a channel
won;t thump but its as good as Blaupunkt 40 watt unkt sold by Crutchfield

Any 6 pin DIN cable available from any AV supplier will work as Amp to head unit signal carrier. there also should be a black chassis ground wire.

Thanks for the reply. There seems to be something amiss. The HA-3121 amplifier clearly states on it that it is 2x25W, and the HA-3141 clearly states that it is 2x45W.

There are two Din plugs on the back of the radio, one above the other. Do the two Din plugs from the amplifiers each plug in to one of these? (and if so which one goes where) or is there some sort of 'adapter' that plugs in to one of the radio and seperates the signals for the two amplifiers? (I saw a picture somewhere that looked like both amps went in to a single cable to the radio but I can't locate the picture again). Someone emailed me and said the radio was out of a 760 originally, not sure, but it says Volvo, it was free, and it is suppose to work.

Any idea where I can get the mating 9 pin female connectors for the amplifiers speaker/power lines?

5 & 6 pin dins are common AV items but 9's are a tough one.
Try a google for Audio visual commector suppliers.

Wiring I can't help you as I've never worked in a 760 system before.

You could pull off the top of the radio and look at the wiring on the PCB at the connector. I know the amps have the channel designation on the PCB if you take the cover off and that should allow you to trace the wires to the appropriate din pin location.

It sounds like they had a 6 speaker set up. Don't know if it had a component set for the 4 channel or not. Maybe 4 channel to the doors and 2 channel to the rear deck speakers?
