90 Wagon Clutch ajustment 200

Hi Everyone,

I have just brought a 90 wagon and it seems like the clutch might be worn out. The pedeal comes all the way up before it engages. I have tried to move the plastic screw on the clutch cable, but i have moved it both ways and it doesn't seem to help. I cant get the lock nut to turn so i have been just moveing the whole thing. Does that work? Does it need a new cable or a whole clutch. Any other adjustments?? Thanks!

The proper setting for the clutch is measured by the free play in the clutch pedal. Place a ruler on the floor and lean it against the end of the pedal. Hold the ruler and lift up on the pedal. There should be 3/8 to 9/16" free play. There is a way to measure this at the clutch fork but I've never had luck with that.

The adjuster nut turns on the spiral structure of the clutch cable, like screw threads. That stupid lock nut failed on every 240 I've had so I've used a small hose clamp on the cable on the side of the adjuster nut toward the pedal. This keeps your adjustment in place.

I wouldn't assume the clutch is bad until you feel some slipping. The free play is very important though., too little and the clutch may slip, too much and you'll have trouble changing gears without a gear crunch.

Good luck and let us know how it comes out.
