V90 ABS light is on S90-V90

Hi all,
I have a '98 V90. The ABS light has been on for the last few weeks. I have had, earlier this year, two incidents. One, where I skidded out of control and landed against a snow bank (no damage) and another one, a fender bender, where a large truck's rim lightly dented my passenger side doors. I give this information since it may have some bearing. I've gone to two mechanics. But they can't figure why the light is on. The tool/sensor indicates that there is a communication failure between the data link connectior and the ABS controller. (The car has self-diagnostics that the tool/sensor can/tries to read.) Thanking in advance for any ideas and help!

Unless the scanner was a Volvo specific one, the ABS controller may not have been compatible with it and the fact that there is no communication is not indicative of the real problem.

Usually, ABS problems are due to dust/dirt/rust between one of the sensors and the speed ring of the hub. Have them cleaned and see if the problem goes away. Otherwise I would probably go to a dealer to get the benefit of a real Volvo scanner.
