Front drivers window off track on 740 GLE wagon 700 1990

Hi,
Staring about a year ago I noticed my front drivers window is off track. It tilts down slightly toward the front of the car. This causes a gap in the rear vertical joint between the window and metal door frame. Also a gap on the top horizontal joint between the window and metal door frame. The gaps are approx. 1/8" wide. No moisture gets thru but the wind whistling thru is driving me nuts. I've tried simply filling the crack with the black felt weatherstripping with additional material but it only helps the problem to a degree. Also,when I put the window up it knocks and shutters as it reaches the top. Perhaps this will be of help in diagnosing a problem.

My questions are: what is wrong and is it feasible for someone at home to access the window and get it back on track. Assuming that is all that is wrong. Thanks for any ideas.

    My cars are 940s but I can’t see how it can be too different. There is some good information in the FAQ which you must read but this is the rest of the story.

    The window is held in place by about an 8”-12” U-channel. Finish breaking the seal if there is any. Remove the U-channel, or leave it in place but clean out the grime, (1)reinstall the U-channel and then (2)glue the glass in using your favorite. I used 3M gasket cement. I tried to reinstall the glass with the U-channel attached. Impossible! Well possible with a lot of unnecessary disassembly.

    I had the same problem with my 1988 740. It's actually quite easy to fix with these cars. Just remove the door handle screw, the plastic rivet, and whatever else you can find holding down the interior door panel. Once you pop it off, gently detach the speaker wires, etc.. With the panel off, you can access the window and the arm that holds it to the motor assembly. You should be able to manipulate it which ever way you need to correct the problem.

      Having fought a similiar wind noise problem on my '90 wagon, I'll relate my story; On my car, there was no adjustment. Four bolts held the regulator in place. I finally bit the bullet & removed the regulator assy. from the door by removing the clips & duct taping the glass up out of the way. I found the center piviot of the regulator badly worn, almost ready to seperate. This 'slop' allowed the window to tilt in the tracks and give that horrible wind noise. There were no 'pick & pull' spares available,and I'd already bought a wrong part on ebay, so I cut out the damaged area, welded in a large fender washer, reamed the hole to fit the piviot, and reassymbled the regulator. I've got about six mounths on it now, with no problems. It was a complicated fix, but I've got a pretty well equipted shop, & that helps. It is hard to see the play in the piviot while installed, cause there is a large spring that preloads the piviot arm. Once it's on the bench, it's cbvious.
