upper hose otlet cracked 900

Hi Everybody!

Yesterday when I was flushing cooling system and changing thermostat in my 940 Turbo 1992, I noticed that upper hose outlet on radiator is cracked. It looks like previous owner (or at garage) glued the crack and I opened it again ( I have the car for two months). Did anybody try to fix this kind of problem without changing radiator? The crack is very tiny and one can hardly see it, but it leaks when I drive (on idle there is no lick even when engine is hot).
Please help,

Robert

I have no idea where you purchased the car 2 months ago, but if it was from a lot or garage, you may consider talking to them. They may offer to provide you with an old one or possibly get you a new one at wholesale?

just a thought

I agree on getting the new radiator. Ask for an all metal one. fcp and ipd carry them. I had to put a new metal one on both my 740 and my 940. I got mine
locally at Voluparts.

Consider yourself lucky to have ample warning. On my 87 745 it was sudden, total failure. The good part was it happened right after parking the car. Walked away and it was fine, returned five minutes later to find a huge pool of coolant under the car. You can't fix it and rely on it.

Hi Robert:
I agree with Spook. I just replaced the radiator on my 960 for the same reason. I got a new radiator and hoses and a thermostat from an internet supplier and did it myself in about two hours. Very easy to do if you have a modicum of skill and just a few tools. If you have an automatic transmission, you do need to be careful to use two wrenches when removing and replacing the automatic transmission cooler lines. If you are careful when you remove the old radiator then you won't drip too much auto transmission fluid on the ground (but put newspaper under the front end to help out with cleanup).

Hope this is helpful.

Dear Robert,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. CHANGE THE RADIATOR AT ONCE!!!

When it fails - and IT WILL FAIL SOON - you will suffer instant, total coolant loss.

IF YOU DELAY, YOU RISK AN OVER-HEATED ENGINE AND A HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT.

THIS RADIATOR CANNOT BE REPAIRED. REPLACE IT. N O W !!!!

At the same time, change the hoses and thermostat.

These radiators have about an 8-year working life.

You've been lucky. Don't press your luck even for so much as another day!!

Go to www.fcpgroton.com and order a replacement radiator.

Speak with Nick Bauer at FCP GROTON. Tell him you have a 1992 940 Turbo. He'll send you the right radiator. You can do this job yourself. See the FAQs.

DO N O T DELAY!!!

Yours faithfully,

spook
