1 more 242 gave it's life.......... 900

My daughter was involved in an accident yesterday, she's in one piece with no broken bones.Going to be very sore today.
The 242 behaved as it should giving it's life for hers. Her estimated speed at impact was 50-55 mph.She was going home for a break when an accord full of 5 minors(all under 18) turned in front of her,she hit the front of the accord(spinning it around) while swerving and braking then slammed into a car merely sitting at a stop sign.I have always told her and my family members to avoid a head on collision if possible. No other injuries at this time to other people in the other cars that I know of.
The front of her 242 was pushed all the way up to the top of the strut towers. It looked as though she'd hit a brick wall. The engine was pushed into the fire wall and the transmission pointing down. The steering wheel was pushed in and the dash and center console(heater control & radio) were deformed and the brake pedal bent. The drivers door did open but had to be pulled out because of the fender going past it,not sure of passenger side yet.She had her seat belt on.
I will be having the car towed here and inspect it closer. It appears all the safety features performed as designed.
Needless to say that while we at the hospital I said(repeatedly) thank god she was driving a VOLVO.I dont want to think of what would have happened in another car.I think she understands now the importance of my stance on drivng a volvo and I also feel that will be her replacement. So if anyone in the Louisville area has a dependable brick for sale let me know.
My daughter will be OK but very sore for a while and may have problem with her right knee.I felt compelled to tell this story because the primary reason for my driving a volvo is the safty factor.I will driving one for ever.

Thanks all for the reply's.I'm already scouting for a replacement.
Thanks for the offer sped, but SC is a bit to far,and spook the next one will have an airbag or 2.
Art,very similar picture, only flatter and a little further back.
She wants a "pretty red 850" that's at a lot close to her.I prefer to buy from an individual over a lot,my experience has been you get more info on the car.
I saw a red 940 that she may like, looks good to me.I think I'll steer her away from a turbo due to her delayed sense of maintenance. And I dont know a lot about fwd 850.There seems to be a love-hate concensus on the 850 as with the 960.The good 'ol red block is her best bet.

We replaced my daughter's 83 with an airbag equipped 91 240. She did a term paper using the motor mounts and a section of the stretched seat belt as props, but yes the speed was considerably less than your daughter's.

1 more dad salutes your choice of vehicles 200

I wish the best for your daughter.

My daughters believe I'm a volvo nut, but at least one of them truly understands.

Glad your daughter is ok and I hope she fully recovers.

Since I bought my first 940, I got my wife and two of the kids into them, for lots of reasons.

    Dear dm960,

Good p.m. and may this find you well and your daughter recovering. More hard proof that a Volvo 240-940 is a nicely-appointed armored personnel carrier.

Perhaps a 940 would be in order: an airbag might have helped.

As to your last sentence, as we used to say in North Carolina, "From your lips to G-d's ears"!!!

    Yours faithfully,

    spook

Hi dm960, I am happy to here that she is doing Ok. I just picked up a parts car to fix the one my Dad was driving. Hit head on, the front left wheel was hit so hard that it pushed the wheel well into the brake pedal so that there was no movement in the pedal. He ended up with 18 staples in his head. Same reason I have my Mom and brothers and sisters in these cars. I have a connection in SC that has a 91 740 Turbo wagon that needs an engine. He wants 100.00 for it. I was going to get it next month but I can give you his no. Pauli

I'm glad your daughter is ok for the most part! This is why I feel good with my sister driving around in my other (winter) 745 this summer. She's safe. It might be an old Volvo, but she's safe :) I keep trying to stress with my parents just how safe they are, I think they're starting to get it. I hope your daughter makes a quick recovery and you find a nice replacement brick.
