Alternator belts won't stay tight 200 1983

I purchased a new matched set of alternator belts several months ago, shortly after I bought my 83 240. The problem I am having is that they keep loosening up after every couple hundred miles. I am tightening up the bolt on the alt as much as possible without the risk of breaking it. At first I thought the belts may have just stretched, but it keeps recurring. Any ideas?

Check to see if your belts are running straight - look at the alternator and water pump pulley from the drivers or passenger side of the engine compartment. If they're not running straight, the problem is likely worn alternator mount bushings.

Also make sure you're tightening it properly - the lock nut for the adjustment mechanism is on the adjuster - the nut that faces the radiator. The lower through-bolt should be torqued tight as well.
