timing belt 700

Hello Everyone
Well I'm looking to increase my skill level...I'm going to tackle my timing belt
and water pump on my 1986 740 turbo I will be getting the parts from FCPGroton. Could someone give me some advice on tools, procedures, things to look out for etc. Any help will be much welcome. Thanks in advance!!!!!

I would go ahead and get the tool to lock the harmonic balancer in place. It doesn't cost that much (I think around $40) and it makes the job so much easier. I know others use different techniques , but using the tool is alot less stressful IMHO.

Jeff
In order to get the lower Tbelt cover off you must remove the Harmonic Balancer, this is where all the belts connect, there a a few different way's ive heard of people locking the shaft/Balancer in place to get the center bolt loose, i take nylon rope tie it through the balancer and tie the other end to the Alternator mounting bracket. otherwise its a straight forward job on the rest.
