Throttle Body Cleaning- Why? 200 1986

I have read many posts about cleaning the TB on later 240's. So with 200K miles, thought I better see what Im missing. Took the whole thing apart. Found mostly deposits in the lower idle screw assembly. Got that all clean. So now is it suppose to run better? How do you know if you have improved something? Thanks for any info

Thanks for the info- I didnt see any evidence of massive build up in the throttle.Ports were clear. I will check it again next time the flame trap needs service.

mine was so bad most of the vacuum hose nipples were clogged rendering them useless. that included the idle screw bypass tube thus, idle was "broken." it really improved the ride when i cleaned it.

Sometimes the buildup around the throttle plate are enough to restrict the air flow to the point the car will do a lot of stalling at idle.

Deposits in the throat can prevent the throttle plate from closing all the way, which then can prevent proper operation of the throttle position switch causing flakey idle. If nothing was clogged and deposits were minor you will notice no change.
