Name that part ..... 700 1986

I’m trying to find out what this part is on my 1986 740T with B230 engine.
The part sits to the left of the engine front. It has two turbo hoses coming
to it, and a smaller hose from the top of it going across valve cover down to
breather box. What is its function, and how can I tell if it’s working as
properly ?

Thanks !

It may be the Compressor Bypass Valve you are referring to if it is on top of the turbocharger. The smaller of the two hoses going over the valve cover goes to it, and the larger hose goes to the Air Mass Meter - Turbocharger hose. See the FAQ on turbo stuff - there is a lot there.

Sounds like your talking about the air mass meter (affectionately AMM). It measure and compensates for density and is a fairly expensive part.
