Suspension on 740Turbo 1989 sedan 700 1989

Guys,

I recently bought 740 Turbo Sedan 1989 in Australia. Nice car, like it.
What I don't like is that the car is lowered, I think. The ride is pretty bumpy compared with my wife's 740 Wagon 1991.
Yes, with lowered suspension it looks "aggressive" and is probably attactive for younger enthusiasts ... ;-), but I prefer softer ride.
I don'y know if the previous onwer has lowered the car, or this is the way the car was manifactured. It looks lowered from the front only.
Do you know if the 740 Turbo Sedans are manifactured with harder suspensions ?
Also if I am to put longer(original I believe) springs to make it softer, is it a big job ?

Thanks a lot, Steven

PS I read in the previous posting, people want to lower the car by cutting
1-1.5 coils. So I assumed that it is manifactured with longer spring (softer ride).

Hi im from QLD Australia and would like to know if you are taking your front springs off because I will be taking my good original front springs off the front to change to the low spings. This probably has nothing to do with it but did you buy the car in Victoria or from a person called Noel? and are the springs yellow. If you want we could arange a swap or I could pay you for them. Send me and Email or just reply to this message if you are interested in selling them thanks.

Hi Gold740 ...;-)

No, I bought the car in NSW. The name of the guy is Les.
Will keep the car as it is for now. See how it goes.
Regards Steven

The last owner may have replaced the old springs with a heavier after market spring and shocks. I also did that to my 745T. The spring rate is about 35% stiffer than stock and with the Heavy Duty Bilstein shocks and struts the ride suffers. But the up side is the handling is great. Chances are both the springs, stuts and shocks are more agressive than the stock units. The dampening rate of a more agressive shock will also make the ride harsher.

The springs are the same for both cars (sedan & wagon). New springs are readily available, and are quite inexpensive (about $35 US at FCP Groton). The job is not very hard, but you will need spring compressors. (A $40-$50 tool in the US) When you get the new springs on though, be careful not to let your wife drive your car! Because she'll realize how much better it rides than hers, and you'll have to replace them on her car too. ;-)

Good luck.
