1983 b23f w/aw70 in '86 740gle ? 700 1986

Hello,
I am new here,
Own a 1983 245 GL 206K miles, And is time to retire it.
(rear ended, R/F fender & door smashed in, And Rack & pinion shot) Engine rebuilt < 40K miles, AW70 new tail bush and seal.

The 740 GLE 167K was an abondoned vehicle, body is excellent,
I suspect a neglected b230f engine, ZF xmission, And harness more..
My wife bought it for $200.
I will use the b23f and aw70-(I may rebuild first) in the 740 GLE.

Should I retain the vertical bosch distributer, Or use the cam end driven one?

All thoughts are apprieciated.

I do have access to the mitchells online,
And have pulled the wiring diagrahms for both engines
I am a IAM&AW mechanic for a wholesale grocer,
USN trained electrician and machinist.

You will have to use the vertical distributor or put the B 230 head on the B 23 block. B 23 does not have provision for distributor in back of head.
