LH 1.0 to Lh 2.0.(or2.2) Is there no one who can verify this conversion. Surely some one has done this?.

Hey,
I talked to someome who should know, and they said it would be to complicated.
The someone is an exclusively volvo salvage dealer who Ive been dealing with for years.
So, I dont know. And Ive searched and searched the internet and not even a peep from anyone. If this is possible and not to technically difficult, or financially excessive, there should be ,at least, a hint. But Ive found nothing.
Its almost like this problem with the rarity of the 1.0 LH system doesnt exist.
The 1.0 has been assigned a spot in the dust bin of history, never to be heard from.

the Only reference I see are a couple giving praise to the robust performance, which I agree with. this car has served well. However, if the computer goes again, Im dead in the water. The last time I was lucky to find a computer at the u pull it. How lucky would I be next time. And thats why I want to covert.

The car is a 82-240 non turbo with Lh 1.0 fuel injection.

Lawrence.

    Okay, opinion time.

While watching your threads my thoughts were always leading to the motivation for conversion. If you want a great learning experience and are pursuing this with plenty of time on your hands and alternate transportation, I give it a good chance for success.

On the other hand, if you are doing this for purely practical reasons, and hope to find a step-by-step conversion approach either in someone else's experience or from suggestions here on the board, then I think you should not do it. Just as the part-year limited production LH1.0 is rare, so much rarer would be a conversion of the FI system on it.

If lack of spare parts is the motivation as I read here, it would be easier to spend the time locating them ahead of the failure. You could pre-test any you find and put them away.

Only technical problem I wondered about was whether the injectors themselves were the same, or same fit in the manifold given a new fuel rail attached. Parts list research may give a clue whether you need the donor manifold. However, if you decide to do it just to be the "first" you'll get all the help you can handle right here.

      Art,
Thanks so much for your response. I was looking for the seasoned voice of reason, but second to someone who had actually done this.
I could use a specific set of instructions. That would be great. But simply to know that someone else had done the swap, and had not gone either bankrupt or insane, or worse, ended up with a deficit bank account and a car that wont run(which could bring on insanity).

Maybe trying to chase down the parts would be a better approach. Im not that much of a pioneer.

I do finally get a true sense of just how rare this set up is though. Its almost like it never did exist.

I really do appreciate your response. Thanks

      Lawrence

        Hey Lawrence,

I just joined this board. Found my 1982 242 GLT via Turbo Bricks, another Volvo online forum, back in 2011. Like your model, my car also features the original LH 1.0 fuel injection system. Recently she’s been running poorly, has trouble starting, and doesn’t seem to be idling well at full stops. Particularly on inclines she stalls out from a dead stop while pedal break is applied. Anyhow, I've been on the hunt to get more information about converting her from LH 1.0 to LH 2.2 or 2.4 and wondered if you ever had success doing this conversion yourself or working with someone who does know how to do it well? I've been through several AMMs, the one installed on her now seems to be working well, but there are other issues I am not familiar with nor am I skilled or knowledgeable to be able to fix it myself. Sounds like AMM, ECU, wiring harness, manifold, and ignition computer are potential culprits for underlying issues?

I was surprised to even find this much information from your posts. Curious if there is more you can share or if you could point me in the direction of someone who could help. Anything you could share would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks so much!
        Nazir
