won't come off 700

Hello Everyone

there is a problem with my fuel gauge so I'm starting at the gas tank and working my way up. The first thing I thought I would check out is the fuel sender unit in the tank but there is one problem I can't get that plastic screw cap off. It is pretty cruddy and dirty under there and it is frozen on by dirt My question is what is the best way to get it off without harming anything (Also all hoses are off of the unit) I'm to fat to get my hands in the access opening and get a good grip on it and turn it and I tried turning it from the bottom and still no luck could someone help me with this issue. Thanks in Advance

jeff

Plastic screw cap?
You should have a metal Crown Nut on there 3" in diameter. Yes,get a large screw driver or a small crowbar and work your way around that Crown nut to loosen it. You have to work your way around because just hitting on one crown will actually cause it to wedge itselfe a bit.

I suggest sraping around that opening and vaccuum all the grime up before taking the Sender out.

Hey Jeff,
If I remember right I took a couple of longish screwdrivers, wedged them in to where they got a bite, crossed them and levered them against each other to get the cap off. I know that IPD sells a tool for this also. Hope this helps.
