Body Seals Needed 120-130

Hey all,
Restore work on my '66 122 goes well - engine running like a dream - its an auto, so I still have that kick in the pants every time I shift from 2nd to 1st - and I found a body guy to bead blast interior/exterior, replace rusted metal and paint (good specs - multiple coats primer, multiple coats original paint color, 2 clear coats - can give details if asked). He threw in rechrome of my bumpers - all for $2K. Anyway, part of the deal is that I come up with replacement seals (door, windows, windshields, trunk, hood, etc.) I'm trying to find someone who can give me a package deal on the set (IPD wants more than $500 for all) - does anyone have a line on where to get a good deal on pieces/parts????

Thanks,

Paul

Having just purchased 80% of the seals for my wagon project and shopping around to everyone...that is an accurate price. As you shop around also check for shipping costs! IPD seals may cost a few bucks more, but they are close to my home and cheap to ship whereas Scandcar may sell them a few bucks cheaper but they gotta send heavy rubber from Holland to the states $$$.
For what its worth, I can justify the cost a bit with the knowledge that the seals will last many years.

Check JC whitney for the door channels, they have one that matches and is a lot less.

good luck.

I used JCW for most of the window channel. The channel behind the vent window is narrower (as is the one in front of the rear quarter window if you have a 4-door) -- rubber channel recycled from a junk 140 works great there (and I have Shayne to thank for that tip...).

$500 A full set is or 122 weather seals at IPD is not bad (a wagon will add $200 to your $500). check with Shayne on window channel availability and pricing

Olof at www.vintageimparts.com is a good source, so is is Joe Lavetsky at www.swedishtreasures.com.

I have collected this same data on spreadsheets and compared the results and for comparable packages (all the rubber goods only) each comes in at about 500 dollars. Window channels from Joe or Olof are pretty comparable for the full package.

My suggestion is to buy several less pricey items from each and select one based on how you like their service and and see if you can work a package deal. I suggest Joe or Olof may be amenable to some degree as they are small business owners versus a more corporate organization. don't expect miracles as they gotta feed the family too.

Nothing against IPD, though. Their prices are in the hunt as well and I have had nothing but good service from them. e-mail: shayne@ipdusa, they have a lot more available than what is in their catalog.

I am seeing $3500 to 4000 just for paint and very minor body work... no chrome, no major rust. I do the disassembly and reassembly.

$2K is a great price for what you have been quoted!!! If this guy is reputable, I would strike fast!!!!

"$2K is a great price for what you have been quoted!!! If this guy is reputable, I would strike fast!!!!"

I absolutely agree! This is a tad bit less than what I paid for paint and body-work.

As a side note and no promotion to anyone, I paid twice what everyone is currently asking for various rubber seals back in the '90's when this stuff was impossible to find. For example; $70.00 each door seal and I had to wait TWO YEARS for right front and left rear!
I am gald for all y'all that this stuff is so readily available and CHEAP! Guess I shoulda waited for the 21st century before re-storing my 122 wagon.
Just for fun, Go price a windshield for your Amazon at the dealership, then call oh, let's say, the Jeep dealership and price a windshield for a Cherokee.
Life is VERY good.
Hmm, looks like it turned into a rant for me, hopefully just perspective for you:o)
Shayne.

Hey Shayne!

That's no Rant!!

You guys carry the window channels?

The only seals, pricewise, that hurt now are the front vent wing rubbers and the rear door quarter window seals. Given the complexity and the easy availability, it ain't bad.

Even so, if ya want a whole new set of light green tinted glass with rear defroster for a wagon it is available and reasonably priced... amazing!!!! The amazon windshield is about $130 and all the flat glass is about $200. My best educated guess is the Cherokee windshield is gonna be a good deal more expensive.

I am happily surprised there is the demand in our cars to support as many suppliers as there are in the market, especially at the current price break.

I recently got new rear floor wells (absolutely beautiful stampings, too!!) for $130 each (OBTW, that includes freight from Sweden). Ask Phil what hand fabricated replacement footwells for his wonderful 4dr cost????

Yes, Shayne, we are in the market at just the right time to be restoring these great cars. Thanks for keeping the market alive to get us to the sort of volume pricing we are seeing today.

Cheers

Hello Twombo:

I just bought a '67 122S Wagon from a great guy in Alabama. I live in New York and the only major rust issue is the pair of rear seat footwells. Near as I can tell, they started rusting from the inside out. Is this similar to your situation? If so, how does this happen?

Can you tell me where you got those stampings? I need to do the same trick myself before the winter sets in. I have two little girls who are going to spend a lot of time back there.

Cheers,

Jeff Pucillo

The precious part number revealed... 120-130

>You guys carry the window channels?

No, like Phil, I got my channel at JC Whitney.
The (1997) part number is:19VR3469T
Their part numbers change with each printing of the catalog, but that's their problem, they can hook you up using that old number.
This is the chrome beaded flexible stuff that goes in the upper rail(and others). Two sticks should do ya for a four door. It is NOT a perfcet replacement as it sits a bit more proud than the orignal. Good enough for my thrid place winner and Phil's blue ribbon:o)

>The only seals, pricewise, that hurt now are the front vent wing rubbers and the rear door quarter window seals. Given the complexity and the easy availability, it ain't bad.

Oh yeah! Those hurt! Price AND installation!
Wait'll you price the rear door's quarter window seals.

>My best educated guess is the Cherokee windshield is gonna be a good deal more expensive.

Twice and then some. And this is a MODERN car.

From the used 140 and JC Whitney window channel, one can tell I restored my car before the internet, GCP, etc. were widely available:o)
I feel sorry for folks that do not have a cooperative Volvo dealership. EVERYTHING is available now...again.
Best,
Shayne.

The precious part number revealed... 120-130

Hi All,

Anyone know where I can get seals for the rear side pop-out windows on a 2-door?

I don't see them anywhere.

Keep rollin'

Thanks!

There are a couple parts that are impossible to get new anymore, and unfortunately 2 of them are those rubber reals which go around the rear pop out windows. I was lucky, and found beautiful examples at a salvage yard outside Portland last year, most of the time the rubber is cracking/ disintegrating.

Interestingly, I haven't been to the Dealer even once yet with so many suppliers on the Internet. Got one good salvage yard where they know me well though!!

Thanks, Shayne on the JC Whitney hint!

Quarter window rubbers are a pain to do huh? OBTW, how is the belt line chrome trim (base of the windows... the ones with the rubber scrapers) held in? Snaps in place?

>Phil's blue ribbon:o)<

That oughta get him out of the dog house, huh? Can't believe a fella would give his dearest wife's motor away!!! Some guys just ain't got no heart! Hee Hee!

Later guys!

No prob. I replaced it with the one Cameron gave away to me... and he's not married. *^)

Those chrome sills are spring-loaded and the springs push outboard. Grasp very firmly with both hands and squeeze inboard while pulling the flat edge inside the door upwards. The challenge is to do this without removing paint. Installation is the reverse -- only worse.

Vent window rubbers are a pain. You have to disassemble the innards of the door to extract the vent window and everything it attches to as a unit. Then the hinge rivet has to come out -- the alternative is to cut through that $$$ new seal somewhere (you'll see how this works pretty quick).

"With the one Cameron gave me"...... You guys up there are thick as thieves!!!!! Seems to be working quite well!

Fortunately my paint is dead... trick, I guess, is not killing the new paint.

Ha! I got a hand rivet squeezer from my airplane fixing days. Since I am thinking about having the doors dipped, everything will have to come out anyway.

Thanks guys

Twombo

Restoration Specialties at Windber, PA has a wide variety of seal material
and could probably match about any Volvo cross-section. They will not have
Volvo part numbers though, and the corners will not be molded together.
You can do that with weatherstrip cement or Krazy Gloo.

I don't know if it will be any special deal, but you might try Vintage Import Parts. http://www.vintageimparts.com/
Or you can email Olof at olofm1@telus.net He has always been helpful
