My car has started shaking really bad when sitting at idle with the car in drive. It shimmys a little when it sits in park at idle, but violently shakes when it is in gear but sitting still.

The car drives fine otherwise. No real shake or shimmy when driving down the road; Only when sitting still.

Could this be motor mounts?

It could be the motor mounts, and a visual inspection will reveal any issues. I also thought your idle might be set too low. If it drops to 500 or below, the engine will get really rough as it attempts to keep its speed up. Plus, the fact that it gets worse when you put it in gear seems to support that hypothesis, because while in gear, the engine has more load, and therefore will be forced to an even lower RPM. If you have a tach, keep an eye on the gauge while sitting, if not, adjust the idle screw to see if the problem goes away.
