Magnecor wires question - feedback wanted 200

Hey folks - anybody have any experience with Magnecor wires? Specifically, I'm considering purchasing either the 7mm or 8mm diameter ones. There is a company on the Web selling the 7mm for $29 and the 8mm's for $31 - UltraRev I think. Which ones should I go for?

Based on what I've read on the Web, it seems like the 8.5mm race wires are overkill and a waste of money for my stock (except for IPD sport exhaust) NA 90 car. Plus they are alot more money!!

Can't wait to get rid of those Bougicord(sp?) POS!

TIA

I have the 8.5 on my car with the IPD sport exhaust. I put on the wires a couple years back and they have been great. I don't think I ever noticed a performance gain, but I have never had anyproblems with them. they fit the NGK plugs well and the dist. cap as well.

Nothing to special to report. I am pleased and haven't had any problems.

I just installed the 8.5s and like them very much...the bright red complements the black valve cover quite well ;) I can't comment on the performance gains thus far but haven't experienced any problems.

Best,
Adam

The 8.5s might make a difference with your car considering your mods. Probably will do nothing for mine, I'm going to stick with the 7's or 8's, plus the cost is a factor as well...

Is the fit okay? For example, do they fit into the holders okay?

Please update us with any performance comments. Thanks!

Yup they still fit into the holders just fine. They were installed last weekend but I only got to drive the brick for a few miles before heading back on the train to Boston (Car resides at parent's house). Hopefully this weekend I can do some "spirited" driving.

Best,
Adam

John,

Which size would you use/buy? 7mm? 8mm? or 8.5mm? for 91 745 turbo.
This ultrarev place got some good price on Magnecor.

Magnecor wires question - feedback wanted 200

Here is my short story. When I bought my car 4 years ago it came with Bosch wires, never had a problem with them. After a couple of years of driving (I drive about 20k a year), I thought I should replace them as I didn't know how old they were.

Incidentally, the problem might not be just Bougicord but FCP Groton's quality control as well. I do like Groton very much however...

Based on my reading in the BB, I bought a set of Bougicords from Groton. First set was a mismatched piece of crap so I sent them back. They sent me a new set gratis. Installed them and within a few months, wire #4 came out its connector to the distributor. I reinstalled and applied a little dielectric grease. Okay for awhile then the car began running rough this summer and finallly would hardly run after a rainstorm. Took it apart again and repeated the repair but I've had it, the wires haven't even lasted 24K!

I live in New England and I need dependable starting/running for the wetter fall season and cold winter.

From what I've read, Magnecor is the way to go....
