144 mission 140-160 1969

I just picked up a 1969 144 w/ 85K, had to drive her from Pa. to NH. 500 miles and after 7 years of storage she performed great. There is a little drifting in the front end, some detonation under a load, bad break booster, and running on when I shut her down. She just won't shut off??? Any advice? What are the best sources/manuals for repair info? Where do I start? Help or my divorce is imminent!! Is that a good thing?

There is an Haynes 144 160 Manual on eBay -- item 7918101281 -- not much time left, no bids.

You might want to look up David Burnham on Rt.114, in Bradford, NH. His is not a commercial shop, but he owns just about the finest 142 in the country ,and is very knowledgable and a great guy.

I would disconnect the brake booster. As George said, it will cause
a vacuum leak that will mess up the mixture and cause the runon and
    detonation.

There may be a connection between the brake booster and the running on.
To avoid running on, one thing you do is to set the idle as slow as possible.
Additional air from a leaking diaphragm will speed up the idle, and also make
it leaner, more likely to detonate.
