Blower diagnosis 200 1990

Help, my blower suddenly stopped last week. Rather than replacing blower motor at once are there any other areas I can check. There was no prior warning noises like squeaking or whining which leads me to believe it could be an electrical problem. Note I was working on a front door speaker recently. Could there be a connection? Finally, I have power at the fuse and at the switch connector. Wasn't sure how to check the switch... jerry j

Definately sounds like an electrical problem instead of the typical blower motor squeal problem. I would start with the fuse and the switch. There are switches for sale from the IPD or FCPGroton websites. Also, I'd get an electrical schematic of the blower circuit out of either the Haynes or Bentley repair manuals and start looking for voltage with a voltmeter.

The exact same thing happened to me last week. No warning and the blower was gone. Here in Florida a working air conditioner with blower is a matter of life and death. If you search the archives you will find that replacing the blower "BLOWS". While I enjoy most of the projects on my 88 240 this is one I couldn't stomach. Right away Monday morning I took it to a Volvo specialist near me and he replaced the blower in 4 hours while gladly accepting my $500.00. In my view and not many on the "board" would agree, it was money well spent..

Good Luck

Four hours sounds like a pretty quick job. How much of that money was parts?

I know a guy that can do it in an hour and a half.

Yes, 90 minutes.

And he doesn't use the "chainsaw" method either.

I wish I could do them that fast...

You don't need to be able to do them that quick, you don't have a busy shop to turn a profit on. The luxury of doing your own maintainance is that you can sit back and take a weekend over a job like that.
