I recently added a 1990 740GLE 16-valve, 180k mi, to my Volvo fleet (all 240s to this point). The car loses a huge amount of oil at highway speeds (1 qt per 100 miles), and much less driving slowly in-town (1 qt per 1000 or so). The undercarriage from the bell housing backwards is completely soaked in engine oil, but the front of the engine and the oil pan look clean ... which tells me maybe the rear main is leaking under crankcase pressure.

So, I am wanting to service the flame trap, breather hoses, oil separator, etc, to make sure that the crankcase is venting properly, and see if that reduces the leakage. I went poking around in the engine compartment today, trying to spot all the familiar parts and hoses, and can't figure out how I am going to do the job without pulling the intake manifold off.

Can anyone tell if it's possible to do this service on B234F engine without taking the whole thing apart? So far, I have been very frustrated with how much harder this engine seems to work on than my trusty B230s!
