drive belts 700 1989

Hi guys,

I am having one heck of a time getting my belts switched. I have a 1989 744T with AC, so 3 belts. I can fit the Alternator belt and the crank to compressor belt. I can't for the life of me get the fan/crank/power steering belt to fit. Are there any tricks to this? I have phoned the store that I bought them at to make sure I've got the right belts, so that shouldn't be a problem. Just for anyone's info, the belts are Goodyear replacement belts, model 15402, 17386, and 15396.

Help??

Thanks.

The p/s pump is a bear to loosen and move so you can install the belt. Try loosening all the fixing nuts (including the one on the long bolt through the bracket), then use a rubber mallet to push the pulley toward the engine. It won't go all the way due to the supply pipe. Then use a large screwdriver to lever the belt onto the pulley. Make sure that the pulley is aligned with the crank pulley: if not, the alloy bracket is worn and needs to be replaced.
