Going to have a junky good time...

Evening Brickers,

On Saturday, a friend and I (thought it be good to have 4 hands instead of 2), are going down to a local pick and pull lot, where there are quite a few Volvos. He said he has just about every model (except for the new ones of course, 96+), and has a few turbo-charged models. All I need is a spare (which might be a stock 14" tire), or if I can find a complete set of nice rims do that instead (then I would have 4 spares :-). Also a few other small parts, but I'm wandering, what would you do in my case? What else would you pull off, and what tools would your bring. I'm thinking about getting a tach, but I have pulled my dash off a million times so no problem there, what i really want is some turbo-sway bars, so in this case, at a pick and pull yard, what tool would i need to pull them off? also do i have enough time to do it (like 2-3 hours)? Finally what are some examples of prices you have found when dealing with the pick and pull yard people (i don't want to get riped off...)?

Thanks a load,
Blake

Prices seem to vary widely around the US. Some places will sell you a transmission for $25, others $100 or even more. There is no "ripped off" except your system of values.

But any DECENT diy yard will have a list of prices posted. If there's no list or if the item you want isn't on the list, ask before wasting your labor.

Off the top of my head, bring a good set of 1/2" drive sockets, ratchet and extension(s), and combination wrenches to match. I think in swaybars you're looking at 15/17/19mm fasteners - best to have the whole set. Also bring screwdrivers, vice grips and anything else you might need to pull misc parts.

If you live anywhere where there's water in any form, don't forget the can of PB Blaster.

Rear bar- 17mm and 19 mm wrench. It helps to support the rear axel but you can drive the long bolt out with a big punch even with the weight of the axle on it. For the front bar you need a 14 mm socket and a small extension and a 19 mm for the end link nut, and be sure not to lose the front brackets or two-piece grommet. It might take an hour the first time.
