240 Volt Meter Hook up. 200

Does anyong have any suggestions in regard to hooking up a 240 Volt Meter Accessory Gauge. What wires are best to tap? Fuse box?
Thank You!

Thanks! I get the idea, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a neat way of installing. I appreciate the input!

As the replies indicate, there are many ways to skin a cat. The installation instructions say connect to #13:

I taped off of fuse #1 but I like Art's suggestion better.. As for the light, just splice off of any of the gauge or dash light wires.. I believe they are usually brown if not just look at the wires on the clock or tach, which ever one you have in the gauge position just to the right of the speedo dash..Some have a small tach some have a small clock.

Not where it is supposed to be, but my favorite place on an 83 or 84 is fuse #4. With that connection, your voltmeter is operational anytime you have the key inserted, regardless of which position. Nice to see voltage during cranking.

Thanks for the tip, what about the light?

For the gauge lighting, I used the same wire-- lights up when you insert the key. This is wiring from fuse 4 only on 83 and 84 models that I know of. But like the meter should be connected to 13, by the book, the lighting should come from the brown wires that are fed through the dimmer rheostat. I just can't get those gauges bright enough to want to dim them. There's not a lot of load variation on fuse 4 to mess with the relative voltage being observed.

Another by-the-way. I found a Volvo dash volt gauge to be quite temperature dependent. After noting disagreement with a separate digital meter that came built into an outside thermometer, I took another gauge, put it in the freezer, connected a bench supply to it and observed the needle sinking more than I would have expected as I played the output of a hair dryer over it. In the car I'd chalked the voltage change up to the location of the alternator's regulator so close to the exhaust manifold in a 200. Still an effect, but not as pronounced.

Hook it up to the fuse that runs the signal blinkers, 16 amp fuse #13. This was sugested in another post a while back so I did it and seems to work fine.
