Another question.... 200 1988

On most volvo's I have seen, the center console with park brake, has the seat belt latches in them. They fill a large rectangular hole there. My 88 245 has the seatbelt latches attached to the floor behind the seat. The rectanle hole has nothing in it.

What is supposed to go here?

Thanks again.

Joe

1988 was the first year for the "stalk" front seat belt anchor system. The plastic cup you seek should be on any 240 1988-1993.

A junk yard or maybe one of the Volvo disassemblers might help. The one I remember is Strandberg Auto, near Chicago IIRC. There may be one near Atlanta, too.

Good Luck,

Bob

A fragile plastic cup with a bit of foam backed cloth in its bottom.

" Back to the boneyard?? "

I allready looked when I was there today. Only 2 had the stalk like seat belts like mine and one was just a gaping hole like mine, the other was shattered beyond recognition.

I was thinking about going back to the old style but a search here just informed me the buckles are different.

Do you think I could order this peice from somplace?

Thanks again

Joe

I priced it at a dealer once and I forget what it was (I'm thinking something like $40 or $50), but I went "ouch!" and didn't buy it, hoping to come across one at a junkyard. I did come across one eventually, but it has a few cracks in it and probably cost me $5. In addition to that, it's old Volvo plastic which means it's ready to completely disintegrate the next time I look at it wrong.

I guess if I were trying to fix the car up really nice, I'd bite the bullet and order it from the dealer. If you find a different source to buy them new that's not so pricey please do let us know.

Can't say whether it is sold reasonably priced by anyone. Judging by ebay auctions for the p-brake console (especially with seat heater switch blanks) I'd guess its fragility makes it worth something.

The clock harness may have some less common 1/8" and 3/16" fastons along with the standard 1/4" terminals.
