Manifold options for dual SUs/Strombergs ? 140-160

Are there any manifold options for dual carbs for B18/B20 other than the funky stock manifold with the secondary butterflies and warming passageway? Maybe there are certain years where Volvo provided a simple, straightforward manifold for dual carbs? Might be aftermarket options?

I'm pretty unhappy with the aftermarket manifold for a Weber DGV on my B20B '70 145S. I don't like the unequal runner lengths and assymetrical flow path.

I like SUs OK, but don't care for that complex stock manifold. I'm almost inclined to save up for a Weber DCOE setup.

I did see the recent comments suggesting that the cross-over manifold reduces need to balance carbs. Should be preferred to balance carbs, with or without cross-over manifold.

Later,
Al

I removed the secondary butterflies and pluged the holes.
Haven't noticed any ill effects in 8+ years.

    Hi Al;
The late B18 integrated iron manifold without the secondary plates is the best one. 1972-74 B20 in Canada is the same casting with a few more vacuum taps in it. The secondary throttle plate manifold is a bad one. I know most seem to like the aluminum manifold, but it does not have enough heat in it for Canadian driving conditions at idle and part throttle, and at full power the extra heat has no bad effect. Besides, when painted nice with a good black manifold paint it looks great. The aluminum one looks good too, but it makes the mixture adjustment fussier - in Canada the adjustment is seasonal.

The aluminum manifold conducts heat from the head easier too, thereby limiting it's advantage in "high heat" situations. Of course, adding a thin carb spacer (readily available) cuts that problem down a lot. Also makes carb adjustment less fussy as the carbs stays at a more consistent temp. I'd suggest a carb spacer regardless of manifold, but that's me.

To answer your original question (although it seems you won't need it), yes, stock SU setups were available with an aluminum "divorced" intake manifold and iron exhaust manifold.

I happen to have a non-secondary butterfly iron manifold that I'll gladly send you for shipping plus $1 USA. Gotta show some bottom line or the missus will give me heck (then I may be delivering it personally!).
Let me know. Shipping can be estimated on-line, my zip is 89701.

      Mike!

Thanks for the offer Mike !

Actually, I'm going to need the complete setup with carbs and linkages. Guess I'll have to start scrounging. Right now, manifold by itself won't help too much.

I may get back to you later if I figure out what I'm doing and need the manifold. If I save up I might buy some rebuilt units from Rhys or Ztherapy, or even some brand new carbs from Burlen.

        Later,
        Al
