parking heater Typ 071-B 700 1988

I'm looking for any technical information about parking heater Typ 071-B. I've got it in my car, but it doesn't work at all. To repair this I have to have installation instruction or something like this.

there are a couple of service manuals for those things up on ebay germany right nw, ( http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18364&item=2493944426&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
they'er most likely in German ) but you should be able to get a service manual for it from volvo , the ones listed on the german site are the standard volvo service literature product numbers (TP***** )

Most people in the US have never heard of one, including the dealers.
I've been trying to find parts for an add on unit (eberspacher) and they aren't available in north america, so now I'm hunting the european ebay sites.

You might want to post this question on the UK volvo club fourms, you may have better luck there.

Is that a diesel or gas fired unit?

There's a couple of late model units up on ebay germany right now

This ought to give you a good idea:
        http://www.espar.com/

They are fuel fired , coolant circulating block heaters that do not need to be plugged in anywhere, they can be set on a timer to come on an hour or so before you get in your car, and it will be already fully warmed up with heat and defrost ready to go, and remote controlls can be added that work up to about 300'

Very handy in cold climates, and a major plus for diesels.

For people who live in apartments etc with no electric outlets, it's the only option for pre heating , and if your stuck on the highway in a snow drift for a few days, the thing could easily save your life.

Judging by the brand name, this is a gas-fueled heating unit that was developed originally for Volkswagens. They always had lousy heat and so "Gas heaters" were developed for cold climates. It's an auxiliary unit that lives under the hood (front cargo area on a Beetle) and runs on gasoline. Most will roast you out of the car on a zero-degree day when working right. Tough to find service for these now, but a few shops still deal in parts for them.
Pick up "HOT VWS" magazine or similar to find dealers who can work on these.
Never heard it called a parking heater before myself, but it makes sense, as it would be needed if you were in the car for a long time in very cold (Swedish?) weather.

What I found out was that it's a device that simply transfers residual heat from the engine into the cabin. More common in Volvo trucks, but now available in newer-model cars as well.
