Idle question-960 900

Hi Everyone,

While driving my '93 960 yesterday, I noticed that it seems to idle really low ( about 600 rpms it seems). It seems to fluctuate some, too. Do these cars have an AIC like the earlier cars I'm used to?

Thanks,
Dave

Yes. It is attached to the under side of the big rubber boot leading from the AMM to the throttle body.

Either the throttle position switch/sensor or the "AIC" motor itself would be the first things to check.

When I check the TPS, should I get a click from it when I let off of the throttle? I'll clean the IAC too. This car has 70 K on it, but I guess the IAC could have gotten dirty and is sticking a bit.

Thanks,
Dave

I'd have to check my manual but as I remember it is a resistive position sensor and doesn't have a separate "micro" type switch.

I cleaned the IAC but it had no effect on how the car idles. The IAC had lots of buildup in it. Please let me know if you find out anything about the throttle position switch. I need to find a way to test mine.

Thanks,
Dave
