Fuel Pump Relay on 87 740 GLE 700 1987

My pump just started working sporadically, making my car drive very jerky. Most unpleasant ride home today. My question is, would a faulty relay cause this problem, or is the pump starting to fail? Also, how does one test this relay? $7 sure beats $200 any day.

    my experience is that pumps either work or they don't. Frayed wire to pump would certainly cause this problem. What makes you think pump is going on and off? If fuel pump(main) relay has cold solder joints it would also effect power to amm,IAC etc
