Howdy, the groaning with steering is steadily increasing. The belt is tight and in good shape and the PS fluid doesn't leak and is not discoloured.

Is the incresed noise indicate irreversabile pump wear that shoud be replaced or could be corrected by changing the PS fluid.

First flush your p/s fluid per the FAQ. If that does not solve the problem, then your pump may be saying farewell slowly. The good news is that a rebuilt unit from NAPA is only about $50.
