How does the fuel injection relay work 700 1988

Well, I tried installing megasquirt a while back and failed. I later figured out that I was getting no tach signal but that has been fixed. The other day, I was reading something about the fuel injection relay that got me wondering: does the engine have to be cranking or running for the fuel pumps to be activated? I read that there is an oil pressure sensor that activates the pumps. Is this true.

I was trying to power the relay with the MS and it wasn't working, so I wired in a new relay. But I would prefer to leave the stock relay if possible, and since I don't have the thing put back in yet, I figured now would be a good time to ask.

Thanks,
Eamon

I suppose you have a non-turbo LH2.2 injection system. The ECU switches the fuel pumps on when ignition timing signal is present, during cranking and running. The fuel pump relay, half of the injection relay assembly, is picked by a command from the ECU.

Art is correct .
All fuel injected cars have this safety feature to shut off the pumps in case of collision or roll-over when the engine stops unintentionally and you don't want them to continue pumping fuel.
