Can I use snows from an 89 240 15 inch steel wheels on a 86 740 with 14 inch alloys.I would swap all four wheels.

Yes, you can swap the wheels. No issues. As an added bonus, the steel wheels won't leak air like the 14" alloys do. They always corrode at the bead.

All 240 and 740 wheels are interchangeable. The lug nuts, however, are not. You will be fine.
