For those that are interested in an aftermarket CD player, the Nakamichi CD400 I just put in is by far the best cosmetic fit for the 900 series and probably 700 and 200 series, too. It looks very similar to the factory deck, it is a minimalistic design with the focus on SQ. It doesn't have one of those flashy screen saver screens, it is black. If you have tan interior liek I do, it is perfect because it has an amber backlight (or green, you can change it) and the amber matches the tan. Not to mention the 24-bit digital-analog converter and auxillary in if you want to play your rio karma, ipod, etc. For those that like to keep the stock feel, but want an upgraded soundsystem it is perfect for the Volvo. Not the cheapest and may be hard to find locally, but can be had on ebay.

Pretty cool. The only thing that look out of place is the yellow display, but I'd easily live with that before I put some sort of silver curvy 8 color headunit in my wagon.

Dont want to give up my cassette so what would you recommend for both cd and Cassette??

I believe the current Alpine 6-disc will work with an adapter. Does your radio have changer controls? If so, sounddomain has the changer fairly cheap. I was thinking about going that route, but didn't care for the stock deck. Will have pics posted soon. I do need a better dash kit, but after spending $25 for this one it will have to wait.

The Volvo double DIN unit. SC-816 I think. You'll see em on eBay for a few hundred. There a tape/3 disc changer and a tape/single disc player. The changer goes for quite a bit more.

What speakers did you use? I am having a hard time finding a replacement that will fit the rear doors without cutting the sheetmetal.

panasonic 5 1/4" fit like a dream...

personaly i went fro a blaupunkt head unit for the same reasons...it's black and looks like it belongs...but then again i have acustom panel replacing the cubby hole/ashtray assembly with my guages etc mounted in it below it (also black)

I've not replaced my speakers, but I believe that any speakers you put in need to be low profile. Best bet - go to www.crutchfield.com , enter your cars information, and see what they say fit. Then you can shop around for those models if you want.

As for the Nakamichi, yes, post some pics. One easy way to do this is to upload them on a Yahoo account. Then send an invitation to yourself to view the picture, right click on the link in that email for the address of the picture or album.

Personally, I have an Alpine CDA 7839 in mine, it's a 1999 model. Works great, and people sell them for ~ $80 or $90 on ebay now.
