HELP!!! Buying a volvo garage

Looking to buy a volvo garage and don't want to get ruined. Wasn't it mentioned recently that Volvo's new models come with proprietary parts that can ONLY be worked on by Volvo dealers? HELP!!!

Not true, but you need access to the VADIS system which can be had through subscription. You also need to do a lot more homework or you are going to be hosed on this acquisition.

if you are in the market, you need to be better informed. the vadis system, which is soon to be replaced, runs about 20k for the tool, dvds and yearly subscription. not for the faint of heart. i don't think leasing is an option. there are other alternatives, but they pale somewhat to the real vadis. plus, the vadis is known for going down or taking 3, 4, or 5 times to get a download into a car. it is not well liked nor respected in the dealer or the aftermarket. but if you are going to be doing more than oil changes and brake work on the 99 up cars, you need to get 1. lotsa parts on those cars don't plug and play.

Most of the major electrical components on Volvos made after 1998 require a software package downloaded into them before they will work. The software is avaiable for aftermarket purchase from Volvo. If I were you I would contact a Volvo dealer and find out how much it would cost you to get set up before you invest a bunch of money.
