I cant get my ABS speed sensors off 700

hi all.

88 744t with 250k. The abs comes on whenever I come to a nice slow stop. I read the FAQ's and I undid the 5mm allen head 'holding' the front ABS sensor in place. However, the sensor would not come off. Am I missing something really obvious? I saw the magnetic pickup for the sensor on the other side of the dustcover- it had a bunch of particles stuck to it. Do I have to take the rotor off to clean this? It's really irritating. thanks

As a side note I have another funny glitch with the brakes. When deaccelerating and applying the brakes with the motor around 3500rpms the brake pedal is kinda hard and the car seems to pull to the right. But- if I go the same speed and put the car in neutral and then apply the brakes they work fine. I noticed it the other day when I had to brake suddenly on the freeway/autoroute about 85mph/3200rpms and the car pulled to the right and the pedal was harder than normal.

For the purposes of this post I'm more interested in the the first problem than the second but if you have an idea that would be great. Cheers,

Jesse

It should just pull right out. But I've had problems with them in the past. You can't just wail on it, because it's a relatively delicate part.

Will it rotate in the bore? Mine would, so I lubed the b'jesus out of it with WD-40 while I was rotating it. (I think this did help the WD-40 penatrate.) Then I wedged a flat-head screwdriver between the sensor and the hub, and pried on it while I continued to rotate it. (I had to get on it pretty hard.) I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for your situation, because you could get away with cleaning your sensor by simply taking your rotor off. But in my case, I was removing the whole hub/strut assembly from the car -- so the sensor HAD to come off (even if it meant breaking the sensor.)

Needless to say, if you do get it out, lube it well on re-assembly.

Good luck.

TVP

Wow. I can't believe it is supposed to pull right out. I was prying on it pretty good with a large persuader to no avail. I'll soak them with everything I have and then have another go at it. thanks

Jesse
