Dead reverse lights 200 1988

The reverse lights on the son's 1988 245 have stopped working. The bulbs check out fine, so does the fuse. Apart from dropping the transmission (M45) to check the switch, what else should I look for?

Thanks for any suggestions,
Erling.

The wires may have been rubbing against the coupling flange on the transmission output shaft and worn through, so take a look there. You can unbolt the rear transmission crossmember to give yourself some extra finger room up top to remove the connector for testing and possibly even to replace the switch if needed.

If memory serves me right, there should be a reverse light relay. Check it and all three wires coming to it. But first take a peek at the wire on the tranny switch. Sometimes you can see it if you take the shifter boot off and look down with a flash light.
Good luck.
