radio removal 900

I would like to remove my factory radio/cassette unit to clean it up a bit. I've about had it with sound rarely coming out of the left side. Some instruction on how to remove it would be helpfull.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone,

I have pulled the radio, opened it up, and sprayed contact cleaner on the volume/ballance switch. Everything sounds great again.

Thanks,
Chris

The FAQs on this website tells how to remove the radio ... and much more.

Definately check the FAQ, but I can say that it is very easy. While going to an install shop to check on a harness availability, I completely removed the radio in about two or three blocks time, while driving at 30 mph.

But what do you mean about sound rarely coming out of the left side? It may bt time for a new radio, but new radios really are cheap. You can get a real nice new radio for ~ $200, or a good aftermarket radio for ~ $80 on ebay (CD players, of course).

What I think he is talking about is a toublesome volume contol. Mine dose the same thing, and you shakde/wiggle the vol control and the sound is even/normal for a while or untill you hit a bump in the road.

Thanks for all the replies,

At one time I could jiggle the volume/ballance control knob and get sound out of all speakers, but the jiggle method has been failing to work at an increasing rate. It's way past time to take it out and try to clean the conntacts, but I'll try. I saw on Crutchfield how reasonable a new radio/cd player is, but I'm just fixing up the car to sell after owning it for 6-7 years.

Thanks again

It works perfectly. My wife is pissed. She lived with no sound out of the left speakers for two years. Bad me.

Take the radio out.
Remove the two small screws at the back of the unit holding the bottom on. Remove the bottom of the unit exposing the "guts" of the unit.
I got my electronic conntact cleaner from Advance Auto.
Spray it into the slots of the switch and move it around.
I did this three or four times.
Right now everything works as new except for wife, but she'll be fine. I bought her a real nice car for "her" 20th anniversary. I figured I made it up to her.

Be safe,
Chris

ps.
This was about the easiset chore I have ever done to the car. Thanks
