Fellow Volvo Enthusiasts,
My '85 244DL w/170K miles sits low at the rear. I recently had the trailer arm bushings replaced so they're not to blame. I believe it's the rear springs. I heard that there's "spacers" or "extenders" you can buy to put in the springs. I want to keep this car until its demise so should I buy new springs or are the spacers/extenders a viable alternative? Thanks for your assistance.

If you're talking about those cheap twist in metal or rubber spring spacers, those things work great....until you hit the first big bump,then they generally wind up in the ditch.

Volvo's have always sat a bit lower in the rear. OTOH, yes, springs do get worn. If you don't want to spring for new ones (from like iPd), then get a used set from a wagon. The springs are a bit stronger on those, but being worn too, they'll sit down a bit to just about where the sedan springs will sit.

New springs are not expensive. If you can change rear shocks by yourself, you can do the springs as well - it's not difficult.

At 170K your best bet is new springs.
