142E wiper motor identification 140-160

Hi guys,
Well, winter is here, and the wiper motor on my 71 142E failed yesterday. I have checked on a couple of sites, and both ask whether I have an
"ELECTROLUX TYPE or SWF TYPE 43-1902"

Any ideas on how to tell which type is on my car? Anybody have one?

Thanks,
Jeremy

142E wiper motor identification 140-160

Hi again, guys. I was doing a futher search on this, and found the following blurb at a site, inreference to an image.

This is the hub with splines for fitting wiper arm to wiper spindle. This is later type with 8 mm internal diameter used with Electrolux wiper motors. Earlier type (6 mm) was called 658164 or 654460 and was used with wiper motors made by Bosch, SWF and Autolite.

This data seems to point that the Electrolux has 8mm splines vs. 6mm on the SWF.

Any comments?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Ahhh, those Swedish vacuum cleaners, Electrolux.
Don't you know they NEVER break?
Just like my Volvo (maybe even better IMO) My Electrolux vacuum cleaner circa 1965 still works and has never needed repair.

It's probably the spindle connection and the motor is fine.

Take out the radio and look inside behind the dash. Also the moptor may not be the problem. It could be the armature and connection to the motor that is bad. IIRC, the armature connect. is on the pasenger side, a PITA to remove and replace.

Here's a thought-

the wiper moter in my 142 that i do not drive any more was broken when i got the car. i replaced it with one from a junk car i had that has since become my not-every daily driver, at which time i switched it back again. the broken moter had this wrong with it-

the metal shaft on my model motor(i do not know specifically, the car is a '71, it mounts beneath the windshield to the left of the heater, under the dash) striped out of the fiber gear that it is attatched to in the gearbox. it may be able to be fixed with JB weld(r) or something, or if your motor is bad and gears are good, i could sell/or trade or maybe just give it to you and you could fix either one up. a refurbished one costs about $80 + shipping last time i checked. i haven't looked at Swedishtreasures.com.

your model, however may be a later type that connects on the passenger side in the engine compartment. i think the motors may be similar, however, but am not sure. good luck

e-mail Dknife9@hotmail.com if you need the above part.
