1990 240 DL Wagon 200

I have a 1990 240 DL Wagon with 208 K miles. On a cold morning or evening, my dash lights do not work...it is not the fuse....after 15 mins or so, they return to normal...also my temp gauge gets very high, then returns to normal...the temp gauge indicates high, but engine temp. is normal...

1990 240 DL Wagon 200

I had nearly the exact same experience with my 88 240 wagon(minus the cold weather) a few weeks ago.
I solved the problem by taking out the instrument cluster and spraying contact cleaner on the rear connections and some of the relays behind it. Engine registers normal temps now and dashlights work fine. Also while I was back there, I replaced the 2 standard main bulbs that illuminate the instrument cluster with #168's from the auto part store, this made a huge difference in my dimly lit IC. Good Luck!
